Piling to protect United Utilities services at Cheadle, Cheshire
The homeowner contacted us for advice and the costing of a single story kitchen extension. She had been informed of a main sewer that ran through the border of next doors land; United Utilities had highlighted this prior to the planning stage and due to the location of the sewer in relation to the extension a pile design was required. A site meeting was arranged between the homeowner and our director so he could see the site and get a proper understanding of what work needed to be done. It was decided that pre-auger piles would be best so the piles would be augured to 3 meters to ensure there was limited vibrations a around the sewer from the piling works. Our engineer designed a pile specification that would adhere to this request from United Utilities and a quotation was sent to the homeowner. Once the client accepted our offer a start date was agreed and health and safety RAMs were sent to the client.
Day 1 – our team arrived to site to install 3 piles to the require depth/set using the traditional Grundomat method. A further 3 piles were augured to 3 meters then installed to the required depth.
Day 2 – the next day our team arrived early to site to discuss with building control about wrapping the sewer in Visqueen to protect it from concrete. The team ensured there was no water in the piles before concrete arrived the same morning. The job was completed by lunchtime and the site was left clean and tidy for the builder to start his work.
