Why Choose Vxcel Piling?

Whether you’re building a new house, an extension, a garage or a conservatory, the foundations are a critical part of the project. So when potential problems crop up with the ground conditions for your project, it can all too often seem daunting and stressful to get them resolved.

That’s exactly where we come in. With well over a decade of experience behind us, we’re experts in domestic piling solutions, including underpinning and mini piling, and our team have all the knowledge, experience and equipment we need to make the process simple, efficient and stress-free.

Our extensive in-house expertise means we can deliver a comprehensive service in which we handle almost every aspect of your piling project. Alternatively, we can work closely with existing teams or contractors already working on-site, coordinating our work with their schedules to ensure that you can have peace of mind in a flawless piling solution that’s delivered on time and on budget.

What is piling and when do I need it?

Piling is a construction technique that’s used to strengthen a building’s foundations. Strong columns (typically made of steel or concrete) are burrowed deep into the ground, enabling them to transfer the structure’s weight further underground than would normally be possible with standard foundations. This increases the building’s stability, which is particularly important in what would otherwise be unfavourable ground conditions.

There are a number of circumstances in which you may need piling:

  • Your current foundation trenches are not stable (often because they’re affected by water)
  • The water level is too high
  • There are existing foundations from a previous building, which are proving difficult or expensive to remove

Don’t worry, you won’t have to make these judgements yourself – you’ll need to be informed by an expert, such as a civil or structural engineer. In some cases, they may advise you that rather than a standard piling solution, you need mini piling for best results.

What is mini piling?

Mini piling is a type of piling that uses columns with smaller diameters than usual, which makes them lightweight and cost-effective, while still capable of supporting significant structural loads. Most mini-piling projects use hollow steel shafts, securely anchored or drilled into the ground.

There are several key advantages associated with mini piling, including:

  • Quick installation
  • Cost-effectiveness
  • Versatility for restricted spaces
  • Minimal disruption to surroundings

A quick overview of our process

Some elements of our process may vary depending on the specifics of the project or environment in question, but as a general rule, we follow the same core process for all of our piling projects.

  • Tell us about your piling project. When you get in touch with one of our team, we’ll always start out by finding out some of the essential details about your project.
  • Technical visit. We’ll follow up our initial conversations with a free site visit from one of our technical team. We’ll always aim to do this within one working week if possible, wherever you’re based. During this visit, we can provide assessments and advice on anything from trees, drains, culverts, and the progress of the project in general.
  • We’ll provide a full site report as the next step, giving you full details on our solutions, estimates and terms. Once you’ve had a chance to read and accept the proposal, we can then proceed with your project.
  • The site is excavated either by our team or by one of your existing contractors. We have everything we need to do this task ourselves, but equally we can stand back and leave it to a different team – whatever works best for the situation at hand.
We complete the piling typically within a single day, and then we’ll put in all the supporting infrastructure (including the steel ring beam, and prefabricated cages.)
  • Regulatory approval is then required from Building Control. It’s normally best for you to obtain this yourself, and then instruct our team when you’re ready.
  • The concrete is poured on the day of approval (if possible) and then NDT tested, levelled, and tamped, to finish your structural foundation.

Finally, we’ll give you your structural calculations, and your 10-year guarantee, so you can have complete peace of mind in a stress-free, efficient job whose results stand the test of time.
