Four common questions about mini piling

• Do I need a ground inspection?

There’s no blanket yes or no answer to this question, but in many cases, we often find it’s not necessary for our clients. (It’s also not a service we provide here at Vxcel.) While sometimes commercial customers prefer to have a ground inspection conducted to fulfil certain procedural requirements, domestic projects often aren’t bound by the same obligations, as it’s up to the homeowner’s discretion. And in most cases, our team will find out more about the ground conditions over the course of the piling process anyway – which means it’s not always worth the extra time or expense. However, there are sometimes exceptions – feel free to ask us when you get in touch, and we’ll be happy to advise you individually on whether or not you may need one.

• Will mini piling work for underpinning my existing structure or extension?

In short, yes – mini piling is an excellent solution for underpinning existing structures or extensions. It provides additional support and stability to foundations that may be settling or experiencing structural issues. Mini piles can be installed alongside existing foundations with minimal disruption, making them ideal for this purpose.

• What equipment is used for mini piling, and will it fit in my restricted space?

Different companies have their own preferences for the equipment they like to use. Personally, here at Vxcel Piling we use Cobra D500 rigs or vibratory drivers / “moles” until they reach the required depth or a load-bearing stratum. We use Grundomat-style moles, which are renowned for their efficiency and reliability.

• How does mini piling help prevent future ground movement or subsidence?
